In this piece, I’ve taken a subtle step away from my usual style. It began with my usual bold strokes of the palette knife, familiar and intuitive, but dissatisfaction led me to scrape the surface clean, hoping to begin anew. However the ethereal silhouettes of magpies left behind held a quiet intrigue. What followed was a new process of layering and subtracting. Painting, scraping back, and painting again. Each layer left behind traces of what once was, creating textured echoes that speak to memory, impermanence, and renewal. Much like life, the history beneath the surface remains present, even when obscured.
