RME Downlands Art Exhibition Gala Opening
Friday, September 17th 7 pm
Kathy Ellem runs her own art gallery and workshop space, Kathy Ellem Fine Art, in the historic gold rush town of Beechworth. Kathy won the prestigious Australian National Equine Art Prize in 2017 (with an $8000 cash prize), and more recently, the Christine Drewyer Award at the Women Artists of The West 48th National Exhibition (United States).
The Downlands Art Exhibition is usually held in the College’s Graham Centre. This is at the top of the curved driveway, the entry on Ruthven Street, Toowoomba. Hopefully, we can continue this grand tradition in 2021. Our regular curator, Evan Hollis, strives to present a large, formal gallery space with artworks curated primarily by genre. Sub-categories in media can also dictate placement. Accepted artworks are of a standard whereby inexpensive works are often hung near serious investment pieces creating an interesting viewing experience and purchasing options for all browsers.
During the exhibition Tea and coffee are available at the Café in Tudor Hall which is adjacent to the Graham Centre. Visitors can relax with morning or afternoon tea or lunch whilst contemplating your newly acquired art under the shaded café tables.
