This piece was inspired by a conversation with my husband, as we reflected on our childhood spent near water. Boats, rain, and distant storms were shared memories, evoking stillness, freedom, and wonder. Growing up in Townsville, I remember a tropical rain – where play continued and shelter wasn’t needed. I wanted to capture that emotional pull using a monochromatic palette. Limiting the colour allowed the painting to unfold naturally, letting emotion lead. The solitary boat, gently tethered, floats within a reflective space – anchored yet drifting in memory. I’m drawn to the simplicity a single colour can convey. This piece invites you to pause and reconnect with your own treasured moments – fragments of time held gently, like boats on water, swaying softly between past and the present.
