Indigenous peoples worldwide recognise that trees sustain us and are an integral part of our human world, with cultures that are grounded in reciprocity within an ecosystem of non-human kinship. Ngiyampaa people share this deeply connected and interrelated relationship with kukurr (trees) regarding them as like families. The kukurr are our ancestors - often the oldest in the ecosystem are the grandmother trees or “the sentinel trees which stand strong” and keep watch over us.
