Artist’s Statement
I am a freehand artist with a curiosity into symbolism, that enriches the way I compose my subject, the colours I choose, the titles for each artwork and the style I create them in. My artwork is weaved in a never-ending carousel of play and experimentation to capture the essence of my subject. I have always felt at home in nature, mesmerised by dappled light and the dance of colour while constantly learning about the environment I exist in. I want to celebrate nature in all it’s glory whether it is my subject or supporting environment. My desires are always to inspire and uplift my audience through my art.
Biography
An International Award Finalist in 2018, Ngaire Winwood was born in 1962 in Toowoomba, Australia where she lived until and worked until recently for most of her life. She has now setup her new studio in the beautiful Southern Queensland town of Killarney.
Since 2017, she specialises in freehand lifelike portraits whether her subjects are human, animals or nature.
Her love of colour enriches her paintings with the edge to harmonise the subject with it’s environment. She is confident in many mediums and styles including realism, contemporary, abstract and expressive artworks.
In 2017, Ngaire was commissioned to paint two Australian native bird paintings for a client in Beijing.
In 2019, she embarked on a powerful new series called ‘Aughtrealism’, that is based on combining art styles blended to create mesmerising portraits that capture the subject’s essence in a simple, creative, tender and compelling way.Influences
My influences are those throughout modern and historical artists who perceive our visible world through either the classicist, realist and impressionist approaches, who excel in draftsmanship, who have an undying devotion to the truth of light, nature, colour and beauty of all forms supported by richly mesmerising compositions and brushstrokes of everyday surroundings.
