Artist’s Statement
My creative works stem from a single line. I allow that line, a stroke of a pencil or brush, to guide and influence the image that develops. Rarely do I attempt to force an image into creation (in my experience this has not resulted in an image of which I am proud). Often, the final pieces resemble images that have come to me through my meditative practice. I find peace in them.
Biography
I have been living in the Toowoomba area since 2019, but have connection with the community through family stretching back to the late 70's. Having spent much of my adult life in the education industry, a break from teaching, allowed me time to pick up some pencils and paper and begin a practice of drawing. Stemming from a need to slow down and be mindful, the creative process has been one of try, erase, try again. Having had no formal training in the creative space, I view my works as demonstrations of practice rather than talent (an innate ability). During this time I also began the process of meditative practice and investigation of Buddhist teachings. The creative process and awakenings through meditation have resulted in a space of honesty, openness and willingness in my life.
