  • Artist’s Statement

    A little about me..
My hands have always been expressing beauty and duty. I started sewing my own clothes in my teens, and over the years have found a new expression of work. Over time this has included creating banners, sewing bags, icing cakes, and now textile art pieces.

Katie G is a creative textile artist specialising in thread stitching textile art pieces on painted linen.
Her artwork is created on a home domestic sewing machine using straight stich and zigzag. This is known as “free motion embroidery.”

Creating these pieces is how I give tangible articulation to what is in my heart - my art pieces come about when my heart and hands work together to create an image.

  • Biography

Born in Nambour, My childhood was surrounded by farms and country. Moving to Sydney as an adult and having nursing as my first career gave me a love of the ocean also.

In retirement I have lived in Toowoomba for over 15 years and enjoy the art community of the Downs. Working in textiles for over 30 years, my textile art has developed extensively over the last 3 years to what it is today.

  • Influences

The stores in my artwork are influenced by flora and fauna of creation. From the ocean to the forest, birds to flowers, I aim to bring glory to the Creator. The textile artists who have inspired me are Carolin Sharkie, Helen Godden and Deborah Wirsu.
