Karen Howard
Artist’s Statement
I find pastel an ideal medium to capture the effects of light and colour in a painting, being the main influences on my choices of subject to paint.
Biography
I have always drawn from an early age, which was a very useful skill in my teaching career. I became interested in pastels, as a medium, 15 years ago, loving the vibrancy of colour.
Influences
The Australian artist, Clarice Beckett, who was not a pastel painter, has inspired me the most. I also take inspiration from the colourful ceramic works of Clarice Cliff.
