  • Artist’s Statement

    In May 2018 Graham W. Smith was one of a handful of Australian Watercolour artists invited to exhibit in an Invitation Only “Fabriano in Acquarello” Watercolour 6 day exhibition and convention in Fabriano, Italy where they have manufactured watercolour paper for centuries. The painting in this year’s exhibition, “Last Light – Laidley” is the work that was selected to represent Australia.
    Graham works in all mediums and over a 50 year career has created over 2800 paintings and out of 455 awards he has won 164 First Prizes up to $5,000.
    His work is in the collections of Sunshine Coast Regional Gallery and the Pine Rivers Gallery and in 2000, Government House Brisbane, commissioned six watercolours for their permanent collection.
    In 2008-09 he did twelve episodes on Briz 31 TV “Arts Masterclass” running concurrently with an “Art Tips” segment on Bay FM radio.
    “Australian Artist” magazine has published over 100 tutorial and art related articles since 1999.
    Judging engagements include Hervey Bay Art Awards, Mt Isa, Blackwater, Bell, Gatton, Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Redcliffe Art Society Annual in 2018, 2018 MacGregor Lions Art Show and the Watercolour Society of Queensland.
    In 2017 his oil portrait of a street performer was one of 200 semi finalists from 1200 entries in the $150,000 Doug Moran National Portrait prize.
    In 2015 Royal Queensland Art Society awarded him a Fellowship for his services and commitment to the arts and having painted in Tahiti, Thailand, USA and Italy he hopes you enjoy his interpretations.
