Artist Statement
My style favors a loose, expressive approach over rigid detail—allowing the spontaneity of watercolor and the fluidity of line to give the impression of a moment rather than a literal copy. Whether capturing scenic landscapes or intimate still life subjects, my work aims to give a soft impression of a place or time.
Biography
Based in Toowoomba, I am a watercolour and pen-and-wash artist inspired by the beauty and sweeping vistas of the country side as well as our beautiful parks in Toowoomba. My foundational journey with art began early in life but as with most hobbies life eventually took other paths. The freedom of retirement now has joyfully drawn me back into the region’s rich artistic realm. Having lived on the Gold Coast for 40 years previously I have found the move to Toowoomba in 2020 an awakening for my artistic journey. Though predominantly self-taught in my current practice, I have continued to refine my craft through studying under local artists and with my ongoing involvement with the Toowoomba Art Society. Toowoomba is also rich with artists willing to offer support and advice which is so refreshing. I am delighted to actively share my work with the community and currently have three pieces on display in the Aspects of Green exhibition at the Culliford Gallery. It is a journey I am thoroughly enjoying.
Influences
I have always been drawn to watercolour artists and the magic that happens when water moves and paint begins to tell a story.
