Declan O'Dempsey
Artist Statement
My skateboards act as a way forward to reach my dreams of being a film producer and are considered concept art for original projects. As for why they are on skateboards, I always believed it was a fun way to link my passion for road tripping.
Biography
Drawing and Art have always been part of who I am, from my schoolbooks to an easel and computer screen, I do it for the love of it. While a student at Downlands (graduated 2018), I would often get distracted in class and find myself creating comic strips or sketches that tell a story. Though I never thought to pursue an arts class, my careers teacher saw my passion for artistic creativity. It was this teacher who found me a university where art and creativity were consider second nature. And with that, I was enrolled. Studying in a Games and Animation environment moved me into ‘art in motion’. To this day, it is a passion, I pursue it for the love of it. But painting, and drawing; that is where my artistic soul was born. So recently I have returned from digital art, both in 3D and 2D, to freehand drawings with paint pens. My creativity has always been my greatest strength, and I believe shows. Creating images that make you question their meaning or give the impression that they are attached to something larger, a story perhaps. My creative streak refuses to let me create anything void of a story. I dream of being a film producer someday, which is what many of my artworks are, concepts.
Influences
Inspiration stems from the animation of the 1980s. Western or Eastern, it had soul and was made with passion.
