Liz Vonhoff
Artist Statement
Collage and mixed media were formally a preferred medium, however I predominantly use acrylic on canvas for the majority of my artworks. More recently I have been using alcohol inks and enamel to create abstract and contemporary mixed media pieces. Going forward I plan to create in the dual mediums and styles to fulfill my creative drive. It is so challenging and satisfying to building technical skill and tell stories on the canvas but at the same time, letting colour and form organically take shape is incredibly cathartic and peaceful.
Biography
Liz is a local to the Toowoomba area, after growing up around Mitchell and the Darling Downs, on small farms. Her childhood passions included riding horses, spending time with animals and with wildlife, nature, baking and art. Interior Decorating was a potential career path, however after an unplanned foray into Banking and Psychology, Liz completed some decorating short courses for fun. Colour, design and therapy have prevailed as passions and informed Liz's later career choices into Beauty Therapy, Makeup Artistry, and more recently, mental health. Short courses in Art Therapy helped Liz to return to her art practice after many years away. She started exhibiting art from 2023 in various charity art exhibitions and broke through at Aspire Gallery and Gifts at Teacup. She still loves animals and nature, and enjoys both creating art, for the therapeutic value it brings, as well as trying to create a feeling or moment for the collectors to be swept away into.
Influences
Nature and the feeling of colour predominantly influences my artwork. The wonder of how beautiful, perfect and captivating nature is, underpins a lot of the feeling I try to convey in my artwork. Cute and quirky animals that are always endearing, sunsets, beautiful gardens and the feeling of home all influence what I paint.
