Wendy Martin
Biography
Born in Whyalla, South Australia in 1949, Wendy's family moved to Broken Hill when she was 2 years old. She remembers fondly the many trips into the outback, and camping holidays. This early introduction to the countryside and all its beauty heightened her awareness and appreciation of her surroundings and eventually led to her taking up painting. In 1978, Wendy enrolled in classes at the Broken Hill College of TAFE, studying art and design under the tutorship of artist Joyce Condon. Her choice of medium at this stage was oil, sometime later she discovered the versatility of pastels and now works mainly in this medium in a traditional style. In 1998, with her partner – artist Ian Lewis – they opened the BUSH ‘N’ BEYOND GALLERY in Broken Hill where they currently create, exhibit, and sell their art. Her work is represented in numerous local and international collections and has featured in several publications.
