Darlsie Lietzow
Artist Statement
As a self-taught artist, I am inspired by the beauty of the world around me - from Australian Landscapes, birds, pets and people to the quiet stories found in everyday life. Working primarily in oils, acrylics and small sculptures, I explore the relationship between light, colour and atmosphere, allowing each piece to develop intuitively. Although my subjects vary, my work is united by a desire to capture moments of connection, memory and wonder. Each painting reflects an ongoing journey of exploration and growth, inviting viewers and collectors to pause, reflect and find their own connection within the work.
Biography
Darlsie is a self-taught artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland, whose creative journey began in childhood where drawing and art became a lifelong passion. Although family life took priority for many years, attending a Life Drawing Session in 2013 reignited her love of art. As her children grew, Darlsie found the time and freedom to fully embrace her artistic practice. Working primarily in oils, acrylics and small sculpture from her home studio, Darlsie continues to expand her skills through exploration, experimentation and selected workshops. Darlsie's artistic journey began with commissions for family and friends and a couple of story book illustrating projects which quickly evolved into a full time practice, allowing her to pursue ideas inspired by Australia's landscapes, native wildlife, pets, people, everyday beauty and the stories that connect us. Darlsie's work has received increasing recognition with finalist selections in the RME Downlands Art Show, The Brisbane Rotary Art Show, Aspects Art Show, Fairholme FACETS Art Show, the Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award and Aspire Gallery's Solstice, Roam and Petite Pieces:The 100 Exhibitions. She has also been awarded First Place, Second Place and a Highly Commended at the 2026 Toowoomb Royal Show and is a trailblazer on the Toowoomba Studio Art Trail as well as a founding member of the POPd Artist Hub. Through her artwork, Darlsie hopes to create meaningful connections with others, inviting viewers and collectors to pause and rediscover shared emotions, memories and the quiet beauty found in everyday life.
Influences
I am quite simply inspired by the world around us and the beauty found in everyday moments. Light, atmosphere, memory and human connection are recurring influences in my work, shaping paintings and sculptures that celebrate both the extraordinary and the quietly familiar.
