Chris McEwan
Artist Statement
I currently work with acrylics on canvas, a medium that suits my technique. I began by painting landscapes but have since moved toward abstract works and cityscapes. As an emerging artist, I see my style as sitting somewhere between expressive impressionism and contemporary urban abstraction. My goal is to encourage viewers to pause, look closely, and take a journey through each painting. I am still developing as an artist and continue to learn with every piece I create.
Biography
My name is Chris McEwan (Stumpy). I am semi-retired and live in Highfields. Although I am new to painting, my passion for art grew from attending the Downlands Art Show over many years. After watching online tutorials, I completed my first piece more than two years ago. I initially painted on Sunday afternoons as a form of mindfulness, helping me feel mentally prepared for the working week ahead.
Influences
Looking at tutorials and seeking inspiration I discovered Artist, Paul Kenton and have taken a liking to his artwork and design. He has inspired me to be more expressive in my paintings and develop my own style.
Awards
My painting Winter in Italy is currently on the Toowoomba Art Group website and was included in their Global Newsletter.
