Artist Statement

My love of animals started at a young age. Dogs and cats, budgies, fish, tadpoles, frilly lizards ( I think they were actually bearded dragons) , the neighbour’s chickens, surrounded me and that love, fascination and connection grew and continues.

I am an emerging artist and like to experiment with different modes, using multiple mediums. Initially my creative journey began with drawing and painting - recently I have expanded into ceramics and textile art. My work is influenced by the natural environment, particularly birds and animals as well as figurative work.  I like to experiment with the humorous and sometimes the ridiculous. Many people have commented that my unique sense of humour is evident in much of my work. I don’t have a favourite artist as such although I am strongly drawn to Australian artists, particularly Brett Whitely, John Olsen, Arthur Boyd. I had two solo exhibitions last year (2021) - Flights of Fancy at Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery and Living Vicariously Through Others at the Ipswich Art Gallery. I also received a highly commended at this years Ipswich Art Awards for ‘Can’t Kill This’ - a ceramic sculpture.   I live in Sadliers Crossing Ipswich and create in my home studio.
