Artist Statement
Sarah Walker is an emerging artist based in the Toowoomba region, known for her vibrant, joyful, and often symbolic works. Specialising in still life and figurative genres, she brings a fresh, contemporary twist to traditional subjects. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists such as Kandinsky, Dali, and Jeffrey Smart, Sarah’s work celebrates the interplay of colour and form, inviting viewers into a world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Her pieces are characterised by their bold use of colour and innovative compositions. Sarah enjoys experimenting with hues that are sometimes unrealistic yet always visually striking, pushing the boundaries of what is conventionally expected. Her subjects, often representing life’s cycles, are imbued with metaphorical meanings—what may appear to be a simple fruit can also symbolise growth, decay, or transformation. Through her art, Sarah explores themes ranging from life to death, but always with a sense of optimism and hope. Her work encourages reflection, yet aims to uplift and bring joy to those who encounter it. Viewers are invited to pause, contemplate, and ultimately walk away with a sense of delight, offering a moment of lightness in the midst of deeper subject matter.
Biography
A life long love of Art and creativity led Sarah Walker to study Visual Arts, and after completing her Diploma in Toowoomba, she has worked throughout the Toowoomba and Brisbane region over the last 7 years on a variety of creative projects, including public murals, art classes, exhibitions, and grants. Sarah Walker continues to produce art pieces for several online Australian galleries, exhibit through the region, and create new artistic endeavours combining music and embroidery into her paintings, to explore cross creative disciplines and express the world around her, in her unique, colourful voice.
Influences
Dali for the surrealism. Kandinsky for the colour and music/art crossover. Jeffrey smart for the whimsy in the everyday aspect. Rachmaninoff and Beethoven for the dramatic music. My Nan and Mum for the threadwork inspirations.
