I have always been artistic. I remember grinding pigments from rocks as a very young child to see the colours they produced. I am interested in many different areas of art. It ranges from design, photography, painting, drawing, small-scale sculpture, and wearable art to abstract and representational art. It ranges from design, photography, painting, drawing, small-scale sculpture, and wearable art to abstract and representational art. I like to use many different methods and styles: cyanotype, pastels, gelli prints, mixed media, collage, watercolour media, pencils, and acrylic. The most overarching principle that guides me is curiosity—curiosity about the techniques, subject matter, and things around me. I will try anything! It is often driven by a deeper meaning in the themes presented and working through what that means personally.
Art has been present in my life since I was a small child. I followed school up with a certificate in Dress Design at Queensland Art College. I live and work in SE Queensland. Art was and is often present in aspects of my employment, from being a kindergarten assistant to working at an art department for a high school and working for the Ipswich Art Gallery. I started a family in the 90’s and continue to be interested in many things but never seemed to get to “becoming an artist” until later. I completed a Community Services certificate in the early 2000s. In 2015, I joined ArtsConnect and I am on the Management Committee. It was a catalyst for pursuing Art for me. I was a founding member of Art West in Brisbane. 2016-2023 I have participated in many group exhibitions. I had a solo exhibition, “Zen,” in 2018 after winning a competition, “Purple Persuasion.” I have 2 meter boxes with my art on them in Ipswich. I have works in private collections around Australia and overseas.
My art is often influenced by my surroundings and experimentation. Places I have been or simply what is at hand at home are all sources of inspiration. Artists I have admired are Brett Whitely, Arthur Boyd, and The French Impressionists.
