Jodie Rigby
Artist Statement
I draw, paint and print to ground myself. Not a day goes by without me creating or thinking about generating art. My work is a constant search for the best way to interpret the ideas that I have about myself and the world I live in. I do not limit myself to one medium, style or concept. Inspiration and ideas change, knowledge changes with each day, view in front of me or experience I encounter. Each piece I create is simultaneously an extension from the past, where I have come from and what I have learned, as well as a preview of the future. I am a printmaker and painter, but ultimately love immersing myself in mixed media. Layers of paint, pencil, pen and paper, each layer giving new meaning and exploration with every application. If just one person stops for a moment to view my work and reflect on what they see or the meaning they have gained from it, I have succeeded.
Biography
I have a Bachelor of Visual Art, from James Cook University in Townsville, 2001. I majored in printmaking and monored in painting. I now combine both of these skills in mixed media works on both paper and canvas.
Influences
Monet, Leonardo Davinci, Picasso, Matisse and modern artists experimenting with printmaking and mixed media techniques.
