Artist Statement

Themes that motivate my work include an appreciation of nature, human emotions, and an idiosyncratic sense of humour. I like to create work that captivates the senses and inspires the soul. I enjoy exploring various mediums to translate my ideas to life, be they realistic or imaginative, to promote thought. Flora and fauna comprise most of my subject matter. Often I like to find the unusual, the unexpected or the cute and quirky in my chosen subject and express this through mediums which are best suited to describe them. I find pleasure exploring the use of various mediums and finding a balance of harmony between the colours, tonal values and textures. Watercolour, and soft pastels are my favourite mediums, to work with , however I also enjoy using acrylic, ink, charcoal, coloured pencils and graphite. I am always open to new ideas and techniques to allow me to grow as an artist and enable my art to evolve.

Biography

My name is Lauren Jackson and I live on 50 acres in a bushland setting on the Darling Downs, where in recent years I have been able to devote more time for making art on a regular basis. My work predominantly captures natural subjects with a sense for the unusual. I am attracted to the hidden side of a subject. Topics I am interested in include animals, plants, architecture, landscapes, and portraits. Art is a very special way to communicate with the human spirit as we are emotional beings with an intellect. So as an artist my primary goal is to share my artwork in order to evoke connection and contemplation. My work is regularly exhibited in yearly exhibitions in galleries in Toowoomba and within the Southern Downs region.

Twice early group exhibitions in Toowoomba. Participated in several local artist exhibitions in Warwick and Stanthorpe, since 2019. February 2024 Solo Exhibition at Toowoomba Art Society Perinet Gallery. June/July 2026 Solo Exhibition at Toowoomba Art Society Culliford Gallery. Finalist in the RME Downlands Art Exxhibition 2024, and 2025. Finalist in the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2026, with "Forest Visions"
