Jo Higgins
Artist Statement
Jo Higgins is a painter that is inspired by the shapes and colours of the natural world of the things often missed. Paul Gauguin said “ I shut my eyes in order to see”. Jo imagines then draws and paints. Often the images pop out without thinking what to do. Small things become big and large things become small.
Biography
Jo Higgins is an emerging artist who looks for the patterns and shapes found in the natural environment for her inspiration. She has studied Biology and Chemistry, and these studies of structure and form in nature and the environment have given her an intense appreciation of the universe. She has a unique style of intertwining large and small things together. She is a recent finalist for the National Art Competition for “Gallipoli Art Award.” and overall winner of the Manly Yacht Club Art Show .
Influences
Jo has painted on and off all her life and is influenced by her art studies at school and her lessons in her later life from abstract to realism. She particularly loves small dot Impressionism that blends together to create depth in the surroundings in her artworks.
