Artist Statement

I am a watercolour artist working out of my garden studio near Esk. I am intrigued with the wonder of nature, all its intricacies and surprises. I feel driven to paint in response to seeing and connecting with special moments around me. My style is fairly loose and impressionistic. I am not too concerned with some details. It is more important to capture the movement, colours and feeling. Watercolour medium allows for this dreamy, atmospheric style. The paint flows and mixes easily when ample water is applied. Textures and special effects often result effortlessly. My work has been described as delicate, calming yet also evocative. I love to share my wonder of the natural world with others through my art.

Biography

Introducing Susan Wellingham, an exciting watercolour artist who was born in Uganda, East Africa and whose unique childhood has fostered a deep connection with nature as well as encouraged the blossoming of artistic freedom. A former teacher, Susan now spends her days developing her art practice from her studio in the Somerset Region. It is here, surrounded by stunning landscape and local wildlife that Susan captures magical moments with watercolours. Her strength lies in her unrestricted style which allows her to create dreamy, ethereal paintings where the boundaries between reality and imagination often blur.
