Artist Statement

My artwork explores themes and ideas about ageing and decay of objects and surfaces, mostly found in ageing structures. I occasionally term them as 'sentinels'. Serene, yet vaguely menacing, unique objects are conspicuous in the built environment and natural landscape.

Biography

I trained in Visual Communication and Fine Arts at the Queensland College of Art followed by a career as a teacher in Visual Arts and Design. As teacher and practitioner I engaged in a broad range of traditional and new media. More recently I have focused my time on my studio practice reviving themes and developing new ideas.

Influences

My formative years coincided with the arrival of Photorealism and that way of seeing. Conversely the freedom and speed of minimalist composition, complexity of abstraction and expressionist style were and still are very attractive. Those traits are evident in my work in addition to the irresistible temptation of the everyday.
