Suellen Terry
Artist Statement
I have been painting since Secondary School and over the years, have taken a more professional approach to my art. I have exhibited in numerous exhibitions and won many prizes and awards in New South Wales and Queensland. I also have works in private collections in the USA, New Zealand and the UK. I usually paint from my imagination and my paintings are semi-abstract, but now and again I return to a more realistic approach. I love bright colours, bold form and line. I like to create paintings which are ambiguous – revealing themselves over time so new layers of meaning or textures may be discovered within, which shift in the light to reveal another aspect; veils of colour, ancient cultures, icons, symbolism and mystery. I enjoy using inks, acrylic, oils, pastels, collage, tar and shellac in combinations as mixed media. I mainly use canvas, heavy watercolour paper or strong card. I hope my artistic endeavours bring pleasure to all those who view or purchase.
