Artist Statement

As a Watercolourist I love the complexities and challenges of using water and pigments to create and explore. Nature is a huge inspiration for me and I explore this theme regularly within my work. While I most enjoy creating abstract works, concepts evolve from natural, literary and real-life experiences. I strive to demonstrate the marvel of watercolour inviting any viewer to see subjective meaning. I aim to capture the essence of watercolour’s magic so viewers can enjoy, collect and be inspired.

Biography

My art journey began with a small workshop I enrolled in, almost ten years ago. At the time I was juggling four school age children and an academic career, which left little time for an artistic adventure. Over the years I did a few more workshops, cut back on my academic hours and my children went off to University one by one. Eventually I was left wondering what was holding me back, in giving over to a life of more ‘art’ than the other. So here I am! Now regularly exhibiting in exhibitions and galleries throughout the Downs. A member of The Toowoomba Art Society, exhibiting in their annual Exhibitions and having one of my own, Downlands Exhibition, The MET Gallery, MyArt Gallery, Rosalie House Cellar Door, The Hampton Food and Wine Festival and now at The Chapel Gallery, in Highfields. I continue to look for new ways of exploring with watercolour, taking inspiration from nature and literature and enjoying the magic it creates. My hope is for other aesthetes, or art lovers, to come on an artistic adventure with me, enjoying, collecting and exploring the challenging, complex and beautiful world of watercolour.

Influences

Some of my most notable influences are Claude Monet, Margaret Olley, Tom Roberts, Clifford Howe, Gareth Edwards and Conrad Martens, along with literary artists JRR Tolkien, C.S.Lewis, Robert Macfarlane, Dr Qing Li, and Jane Austen.
