Alasdair Groves
Artist Statement
Alasdair works at times in all painting and drawing mediums though mostly ink and wash on paper, and oil on canvas using both traditional and modern techniques. Alasdair’s `work is a mix of dark humour,social commentary, mythology, symbolism, dreams, science, history as well as Science fiction, fantasy and cartooning influences. As well as documenting landscapes and the life and rural culture surrounding him. Alasdair has been called a “Larrikin Artist” but prefers the term “Hermit painter”.
Biography
Born in 1969 Alasdair has been painting and drawing all his life. After studying Visual Arts in the 1990’s and majoring in painting he produced mostly abstract works for some time until returning to figuration in the early 2000’s as a response to coming back home to Rural Queensland. Lives outside Toowoomba and works in his studio as life permits.
