Carol McCormack
Artist Statement
I am primarily a landscape artist. Over the years I have painted it in many ways, my response always involving the way I feel at the time. Whether I am in the dry inland, on the coast or looking over our majestic ranges, I resonate with its toughness, its tenderness, its sheer beauty - now I live on the excarpment in Toowoomba I am lucky enough to still have landscapes, but they are softer, gentler, and I have to search interiors and gardens and city streets - my subjects become more elusive but they are there!
Biography
I trained with Mervyn Moriarty's Flying Arts School in outback Queensland where I lived and worked on the family cattle property for many years. Now retired to Toowoomba - new scenery gives new directions and a slow shift in palette. I still travel and paint the land I love.
Influences
The Australian artists who have gone before, the late Mervyn Moriarty and other tutors from Flying Arts, my life in the Australian outback, and now more time is spent in the city, my friends, their gardens and houses.
