Terese Eglington
Artist Statement
For this exhibition, Terese has created several pieces focusing on recent journeys and her encounters with local birdlife. Terese has used a variety of media to create these artworks although her preference for acrylics allows for flexibility, layering and texture.
Biography
Terese Eglington is a keen artist, children's book creator and educator. She studied ceramics and art at high school and learnt various crafts as personal hobbies, including wood carving and leadlight. Combining a love for painting and an interest in poetry, Terese has written, illustrated and published eight children's books have been the centre of several solo exhibitions across the Darling Downs. Terese’s artistic style is influenced by the impressionists and her subjects are focussed on the natural world around her. She previously created a body of artwork specifically for Hope Horizons Wellness Centre and has muralled school playgrounds, libraries and business spaces within Toowoomba. Being community minded, Terese continues to share her experience and expertise with students, fellow artists and local community groups. Her personal goal in creating art is to outwardly express her passion for and appreciation of nature and share her portrayal of life from a positive perspective.
Influences
Influenced by the Impressionists including McCubbin and Gruner, Terese loves the sense of movement and the play of light and colour that can be achieved through this style. Although Terese uses realism in her pastel works, her acrylic pieces are often soft and whimsical. The artistic styles of Gerda Lipsky and Gabbi Lancaster have influenced Terese's more recent ventures in mixed media and intuitive art, experimenting with design, textural effects, layering for depth and dimension.
