Image #2 of Series of 3 separate images
This image was inspired by Hebrews 4:12, “The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart”. Spirituality of the Heart is seen through the different types of love (agape, philia, eros & storge), through a strong understanding of the faith (through the Word), and transubstantiation through the supreme sacrifice of the Eucharist as represented by the El Santo Cáliz relic.
This panel reflects on the importance of faith being the cornerstone of who and all that we are via the sobering and moving reality of the simple bowl atop this ornate relic - the Holy Chalice of the Last Supper.
Christ is the Alpha and the Omega and His Word is our strength and our sword.
Reference is made to the Christian community under the physical roof of the Church. Jesus is central and present - represented by the cross, the chalice, and His Word that shows us the path to salvation. The colours represent the many and varied members of our communities. The transition from the darker colours of the bottom left of the image towards the top and right are also symbolic of the shadows on the path towards understanding, enlightenment, spiritual growth.
Another observation of this cornerstone image saw it resembling an anchor (representing hope) keeping us in our safe port (Christ).
Together, the series of images represents HOPE. By reflecting upon the Sacred Heart of Jesus, nurturing our faith by studying the Word, through reflection, prayer and receiving Holy Communion, we are all able to be transformed in love, and have great potential to lovingly transform our world. As Christians, we are called to do this.
