Artist’s Statement
For this exhibition, Terese has created several pieces based on her experiences or personal encounters and added a touch of irony. Her preference for acrylics allows for flexibility, layering and texture, both visual and tactile. With a keen interest in writing, As with many of Terese's recent works, 'Guarding the glen' incorporates poetic scribblings beneath the painting and symbolised and developed through colour, imagery and subtle detail.
Biography
Terese Eglington studied ceramics and art at high school and continued to learn various crafts as personal hobbies, including painting, wood carving and lead light. A return to painting and learning the techniques required with various art media has gone from hobby to passion. Combining a love for painting and an interest in poetry and writing, Terese has created several children’s books, the illustrations from which have been exhibited in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. Being community minded, Terese is a member of local writing and art groups. Giving back to the community is important to Terese, having painted murals for local schools, mentored in art and children’s book writing, and recently creating a body of work specifically for Hope Horizons Wellness Centre. Terese continues to share her experience and expertise with students, fellow artists and community groups.
Influences
Influenced by the Impressionists including McCubbin and Gruner, Terese loves the sense of movement and the play of light and colour that can be achieved through this style. Although Terese uses realism in her pastel works, her acrylic pieces are often soft and whimsical. The artistic styles of Gerda Lipsky and Gabbi Lancaster have influenced Terese's more recent ventures in mixed media and intuitive art, experimenting with design, textural effects, layering for depth and dimension.
