I teach drawing as part of my arts practice and through the activity of teaching perspective to others I have come to understand and appreciate landscape paintings on a heightened level. By generating a sense of depth within a scene it becomes a natural progression to position ourselves within the landscape rather than as an external viewer of it.
I have been an artist all my life, its a way of life rather than an occupation. More recently I have been teaching drawing which allows me to both share my knowledge and experience but also to re-evaluate what I know and how to use it effectively in an artwork.
Although I have focused on portraiture for most of my career I have recently learned to enjoy making landscapes.
