  • Artist’s Statement

    Peter utilises several layers of thin watercolour washes to build colour and vibrancy within his paintings. Concentrating on tones and capturing light within the painting is achieved through the build-up of these layers.
    Utilising 100% transparent watercolours Peter build the paintings retaining the light within the painting through varying layers and techniques to highlight the contrasts between the light and dark within the subject.

  • Biography

    Peter Conaghan is a traditionally trained watercolourist, who strives to capture light and depth in a traditional and realist approach to painting.

    Peter has tutored for several art societies and groups including the RQAS.

  • Influences

    He has studied with watercolour masters from Australia and abroad. Paul Jackson (USA), Guy Grewier (Belgium), Alvaro Castaganet (Uruguay), John Orlando Birt, David Taylor and Robert Wade.

  • Awards

    In 2017 Peter was awarded the “Spirit of Somerset Award” at the Bendigo Bank Somerset Arts Awards in Queensland. In 2016 & 2017 he was a finalist in the Brisbane Rotary Art Competition in Brisbane and 2017 a finalist in the Lethbridge 10,000 Art Awards.
