Artist’s Statement
Ngawini Keelan is an abstract artist who enjoys working at the nexus of imagination, colour, shape and texture to create distinctive visual narratives.
Biography
Ngawini Keelan is a mixed media abstract artist. She moved to Toowoomba in February 2024 from the Kapiti Coast, New Zealand. Ngawini has exhibited work in various locations in the Wellington region and in Palmerston North. Ngawini was a finalist in the Kingi Tuheitia Portraiture Awards in 2023. The awards are hosted and administered by the New Zealand Portrait Gallery in Wellington in honour of Kingi Tuheitia.
Influences
Ngawini Keelan counts her faith, her Māori heritage, family (whanau) and her lived experiences of diverse cultures and geographic/social landscapes as her key sources of influence.
Exhibitions
Ngawini has exhibited work in various locations in the Wellington region and in Palmerston North. Ngawini was a finalist in the Kingi Tuheitia Portraiture Awards in 2023. The anwards are hosted and administered by the New Zealand Portrait Gallery in Wellington in honour of Kingi Tuheitia.
