Artist’s Statement
I predominantly paint still life arrangements and largely draw inspiration from beauty found in the everyday. Often simple subject matter - botanicals such as fruit and florals, especially Australian native wildflowers or flowers grown in my home garden - feature in my work. I love to arrange a setting with these and interesting textiles, ceramics and other pretty vintage vessels which I photograph and paint from. The intricate form and details of leaves and flowers as well as the infinite colour blends and contrasts never cease to amaze me and instil in me an excitement to capture and explore.
I paint with acrylic on canvas and layer colours, often painting thickly, to create dimension and texture to my pieces. Simple backgrounds through to floral patterns or checks produce a lively, yet relaxed feel, ready to bring joy and warmth to any space.Biography
Hi, I'm Meg, born and bred in Australia, and influenced by life in both the city and country. I currently live in Brisbane, surrounded by the bush, with my husband and three kids.
I have always been passionate about painting and have loved being creative since a young age. I remember painting gifts for my family since I was little! I studied Art throughout high school and then pursued a career as a school teacher. I am self-taught, although learnt much from my sister who had an amazing eye for anything beautiful and taught me how to look out for beauty in the everyday.
I took up painting again more seriously in 2021 and am so excited to be sharing something that brings me so much joy!
I paint from my home studio where I am often joined by my three small ‘artist assistants’ who enjoy offering their very honest opinions! They also love working alongside me on their own painting projects or terrorising me by playing all manner of indoor sports around my easel!
If I'm not spending time with my young kids, teaching at the local school or painting, you might also find me outside in the garden. Flowers from my garden feature heavily in many of my pieces.Influences
