Artist’s Statement
Mary-Kate is drawn to understanding and growing in her Catholic faith through reading about and meditating on the lives of the Saints. She finds the dedication of Saints to particular causes, and the devotions to them, of particular interest. These paintings are simply studies of Saints who have a connection to animals - specifically bees - Saints Ambrose & Gobnait.
Biography
Born & educated in Toowoomba - Downlands College (85-86). BA Illustration Qld College of Art, ASDA, GDipVA (Animation) Griffith Uni. Illustrator, Graphic Designer, AMEB Speech & Drama teacher. Currently employed p/t at Downlands - Mission/Marketing. President Arts Council Toowoomba. Painter, Public Artist (Permanent - murals & mosaics, & Ephemeral - Avant Garden and various ACT Inc installations). Freelance Illustrator (inc book illustrations). Previously TV Production Designer (Ch 7 & 9 Bne)
Influences
Mary-Kate's work is illustrative. She is currently fascinated by the lives of catholic saints and religious symbolism. These images have been based on historic depictions of the saints and symbols.
Exhibitions
Mary-Kate has exhibited in many local exhibitions - at TRAG and in the Downlands Art Show over a number of years. She has a history of exhibiting in various galleries throughout Brisbane in the lat 80's through to 2000 also.
