Artist’s Statement
MARGARET SHAW - MOSAIC ARTIST
It is an almost primal attraction to objects and shapes that informs my art practice.
By the positioning of often disparate pieces to create an image or pattern, I draw upon a very primitive aspect of art. For me, mosaic, and sculpture speak of permanence, colour, durability, variety, unlimited scope, surprise and reinvention.
Biography
I came from a professional background but have now retired.
I found my art in the last few years, but for me now it is all consuming and mosaic and sculpture have become my very personal form of expression. My art its durable, colourful, expressive and endlessly fascinating.
I have attended workshops by well known international artists both in poerson and vitually. They are too numerous to mention.
I have conducted workshops in Brisbane 2020,2021 and Charleville 2021 and have been invited to conduct workshops at the New Zealand Symposium Oct2021 and following that, in Christchurch.
Influences
Whar inspires me is the art and the artists encountered on my travels, the natural and created world and the incredibly variety, and quality of materials that I can combine.
I have studied and workshopped with many talented artists and this has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to express my own ideas in concrete form.Awards
