Lisa West
Artist’s Statement
Painting both abstract and representational works, Lisa is influenced by her interest in sentiment and connection between people and the places they encounter.
Biography
Brisbane artist Lisa West creates layered and kaleidoscopic artworks that are inspired by her interest in patterns and the connections between colour and form.
Influenced by her affection for the outdoors and her immediate home environment, Lisa’s works portray many of the organic structural forms and spaces she observes daily. By assimilating her personal interpretations, experiences and memories, her art aims to evoke sensations of relatability and sentimentality.
Lisa’s works have received prizes and commendations locally and regionally and she has exhibited within Brisbane and regional Queensland, since 2006. Outside of painting she has a degree in Art History and has spent the last decade working in art gallery programs with children and their families. Lisa is currently in the process of growing a dedicated painting practice out of her home-based studio in Brisbane.
Influences
Her mother Betty Searle, a Toowoomba based artist who continues to inspire with her mastery of colours and her enthusiasm for her painting practice and life in general. Lisa grew up watching Betty paint and spent a great deal of time immersed in the sight and smell of art studios.
