Lindy Sale

  • Artist’s Statement

Her work carries a theme which reflects her interest in the natural world around her. Earlier work placed particular emphasis on small botanical subjects collected in her immediate surroundings. More recently she has considered the psychological effects of a natural environment, for example clouds in the sky above or the complex density of a forest, and how this might be expressed in paint. In 2021 she moved from Brisbane, Queensland to live on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Her studio is at the top of a ridge. The land drops away through forest to eventually reach a creek in the valley. Latterly, influenced by her new surroundings, the subject of her artwork has moved towards forest landscape.

  • Biography

Lindy Sale spent her early years in remote western Queensland until moving to Brisbane for secondary school and university. She subsequently studied visual art and is a graduate of the Queensland College of Art. She has been a practising artist for over twenty-five years, regularly exhibiting paintings and drawings in group and solo shows.
Lindy was the 2018 winner of the Lethbridge 10,000 Small Scale Art Award. She has been the featured painter at the Brisbane Grammar School Art Show and has been highly commended in award exhibitions including the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize (Adelaide), the Lethbridge Landscape Prize (2021, 2022) and the Clayton Utz Art Prize (2017, 2020, 2021).
