Lauren Jackson
Artist’s Statement
Producing artwork is an expression of myself. It allows me to learn and grow. I draw inspiration from the world around me, creating realistic depictions, sometimes translating it into imaginative pieces., and adding a little humour as well. I enjoy exploring various mediums to bring my visions to life, blending realism with creativity.
Flora and fauna comprise most of my subject matter. Often I like to find the unusual, the unexpected or the cute and quirky in my chosen subject and express this through mediums which are best suited to describe them. I also enjoy painting and drawing landscapes, architecture, and portraits.
Watercolour is my favourite medium, however I also enjoy working with acrylic, soft pastels, ink, charcoal, colured pencils and graphite.
Biography
My name is Lauren Jackson, I live in a bushland setting on the Darling Downs where in recent years I have been able to practice my art on a regular basis. My work predominantly captures natural subjects with a sense for the unusual. I am attracted to the hidden side of a subject. Other topics of interest are animals, architecture, portraits, or whatever attracts my attention.
I enjoy exploring the use of various mediums and finding a balance of harmony between the colours, tonal values and textures. Observing my surroundings and taking in the atmosphere inspires my imagination and motivates my creativity. I am always open to new ideas and techniques to allow me to grow as an artist and enable my art to evolve.
My work has been exhibited in galleries in Toowoomba and within the Southern Downs region. Early in 2024 I had my first solo exhibition in Toowoomba.
It is important to me to create exposure to art and beauty that can encourage a love of nature thereby bringing awareness to the importance of conservation.
My primary goal is to share my artwork in order to ignite thought, spread joy, and create a sense of happiness in viewers, driven by my love of art.Exhibitions
