Artist’s Statement
My miniatures relflect my interest in history, story and in particular the way that the built environment ages and decays over time. They are an attempt to capture the beauty of decay and an attempt to preserve things before they are demolished or dissappear back into the earth. These miniatures are based on real buildings in Brisbane, Ipswich and southern Queensland. Or (in the case of 'Corner Store Ipwich')recreations of how existing buildings used to look in the 1950s and 60s.
Biography
Kerry completed a Diploma in Creative Arts at the D.D.I.A.E in 1979. Since then he has been an art educator for adults and secondary schools in Brisbane. He has had several solo exhibitions. He is currently a fulltime artist living in Brisbane.
Influences
When I was a boy I used to make models and dioramas. I recently discovered the work of miniature artists around the world, including Australians like Josh Smith and David Hourigan. It seems this form of sculpture is still in its infancy here in Australia.
