Artist’s Statement
My preferred technique to create my work, is the multi layered Venetian/ Flemish method, made famous by the old masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer and Poussin (to name a few). I think my attraction to this style and technique come from my love of antiques , history of the past, and anything that has a special atmosphere to it, especially the way in which they used light and shadow.
I am still working on my own individual style based on the Venetian technique and endeavouring to be more refined and realistic in my work but still keep it looking like a painting.
My aim is to one day take my hobby to a full time professional level.Biography
I am an Australian born Artist living in rural Queensland, painting in oils on Italian natural toned glue sized linen. I have a wide variety of genres I enjoy painting including still lives, animals, birds, people and landscapes. I enjoy travelling to explore new ideas for my work and hitting the antique shops for new interesting props to use in my still lives.
I first picked up a brush and started teaching myself in 2019 as a hobby when I retired, and now since Dec 2021 have been training under Kevin Murphy, (ARC Living Master) USA thru his Evolve Artist program.
I am very proud to have now won multiple awards at exhibitions, and my work now hangs in many homes across Australia as well as the USA, UK and NZ.Influences
