  • Artist’s Statement

We strive to get a younger demographic interested in collecting.

  • Biography

A cross cultural collaboration in porcelain.

In July 2017 Kayabuki Kobo came into being with the collaborative partnership of Johanna DeMaine and Tatsuya Tsutsui. Kayabuki Kobo is based in both Meringandan West and Morai, Saga Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan.

They were invited to do a presentation entitled Fusion: A blend of East and West: Traditional and contemporary at TIEMPO 4 ALL: 1st INTERCULTURAL FESTIVAL THROUGH THE ARTS at Saga University late September 2017. This was done under the brand of Jiyu Kobo. However in a later check on the internet it was discovered that name was already being used by a studio in Tokyo. It was then decided to use Kayabuki Kobo as the name.

KK literally translates as Thatch Roof Studio. We live and work in an old thatched roof farmhouse in Morai.

This brand aims to cater for the middle road with tea ware.
