Artist’s Statement
As a Mixed Media Artist, I enjoy the challenge of creating different artworks with airflow, gravity, brushes, pallet knives, adhesives, stained glass, copper foil glass art, mosaics, broken crockery, and Powertex.
The biggest inspiration for my art is Nature with its endless beauty, shapes, colours, and forms.
I reside in Toowoomba - "The Garden City of Queensland".Biography
Janice has always had an interest in creating crafts and arty things from an early age. The beautiful free flowing patterns, shapes, colours, light and forms on the earth and beyond has always captured Janice’s artistic eye. While living in Canada, Janice began learning how to create lead lighting and stained glass and from the beautiful pieces of glass, crockery, bric-a-brac Janice’s love of mosaic art blossomed. After attending classes in Brisbane with Oz Mosaics, Janice creates 3D mosaic art pieces from discarded, broken and unloved items of china, crockery and anything which can be glued and grouted.
Recently Janice discovered and captivated by Acrylic Pouring and another creative art journey has began into the infinite designs, colours, shapes and patterns from the free flowing art medium.
After spending many years in Canada, Janice returned to the Darling Downs in 1992 where she was born and raised and presently living in Toowoomba.
Influences
Janice was influenced and encouraged by her mother (Lorna Rickert) from an early age. After raising a family, Janice was able to re-ignite her love for craft and art and found inspiration in many books, magazines and more recently online (YouTube). Janice has benefitted from her membership at the Pittsworth Art Group which is a source of critical assessment and encouragement.
