Artist’s Statement
I love to work on paper. Printmaking is a favourite focus of mine. I am attracted to the transparency of interactive acrylic paint colours and love to explore this through mono printing on home made gelli plates working with limited palettes.
I also love to work into gelli prints with acrylic paint defining patterns and images and creating new ones out of what I see in the patterns. The subjects are as limitless as my imagination and bring me joy in the execution and satisfaction in the outcome.Biography
I grew up in Toowoomba and currently live in the Lockyer Valley. I completed a Certificate IV in Visual Art at TAFE in Toowoomba as one of their last art students before art was removed from their course offerings. I love to participate in community events related to the arts and enjoy sharing my skills with others. I am currently secretary of the Lockyer Valley Art Society Inc and The Lockyer Creative Collective, working to enhance opportunities for the arts and for artists in our region.
Influences
I am influenced by 1950s illustration in childrens' books, encyclopaedias and dictionaries, printmaking, curves and patterns and the rhythms and limits of hand working onto paper or into printmaking surfaces. There is a specific amount of time taken to make a mark on a surface that attracts me to the process of pattern making and informs the boundaries of that work. Poetry helps me frame the moments of a work on paper and gives it a life in a thought.
