  • Artist’s Statement

For the last five years the focus of my practice has been the landscapes of the darling downs. In particular the landscape west of Toowoomba out to Cecil plains, Jondaryan, Acland and Gowrie Mountain. My practice is to work in the landscape where the ground, the changing weather conditions and shifting light all have an influence on the artworks produced. The works are responses to being in the landscape rather than paintings of it.

  • Biography

David LeMay MFA. I was born in Scotland and moved to Brisbane in 1976 at age nine. I have a Masters in Fine arts by research from Charles Darwin University 2002. I graduated with honours from the Art school, University of Tasmania 1996. I have been a practicing artist for 30 years and have lived and exhibited across Australia.

  • Influences

There are of courses many influences on my practice, many of which are not visual artists. Ted Hughes the poet, Joni Mitchell - singer song writer, Samuel Becket the play writer and novelist/performance artist to name a few. But as far as my mark making goes Id have to say Cy Twombly is an artist I continually return to for inspiration and guidance.
