This floral arrangement sat in the strong morning sun on my deck. The purple glass cast a strong coloured shadow and the vase was filled with bright light. I portrayed this bright morning light by using soft quiet colours next to strong juxtaposing value and tone to make the vase the focal point. This painting incorporates thick brushstrokes and texture.
I’m a still life painter from Brisbane, Australia. I focus on florals and explore light and shadows in my paintings with an emphasis on value.
I have been painting for many years but have had a daily practice for one year. At 28 I was diagnosed with cancer, and while treatment was tough, this life change allowed me to give time to my art. Another positive was the support I received, partly in the form of flowers, which I began to paint. I’m now 30, in recovery and passionate about painting.
I studied art history at university and adore impressionist art, the painterly quality that reminds you of the artist's hand in the brushstrokes while giving a sense of being there and feeling the sun
