Artist’s Statement
My art explores family connections, place and time, our relationship with our fur families (mostly my cats) and the human figure.
Biography
I am an emerging visual artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland. After a career in Medical Science, living in various places across Australia and the UK, I have returned to the Darling Downs and embraced a long-held love of art.
I started with watercolour, creating fun whimsical floral motifs, then tried Urban Sketching and Life Drawing which significantly improved my observational and drawing skills. The processes and materials involved in creating art are fascinating and I am exploring a wide range of different media: watercolour, soft pastels, oil pastels, coloured pencils, acrylic, gouache, printmaking, textiles, and bookmaking.
I commenced studying for a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Southern Queensland in 2023 and have started to create works with ceramics and printmaking.
I sit on the Board of Directors at the Toowoomba Art Society, facilitate the Life Drawing Group, and collaborate with others to present special art events.Influences
Fauvists, dadaists, surrealists, post-modern feminists and many contemporary female artists across a range of media.
