  • Artist’s Statement

I have a long association with rural environments and wilderness
areas, which has inspired my work — the drama and wild beauty
of the natural world contrasting with the grace of the figurative.
In my work, I am drawn to classical realism and subjects which
combine grace and elegance with strength and resilience.

  • Biography

Catherine has always had a deep love for animals, which shows in her artworks. After coming to Australia from the US in 1980, she was drawn to capture the vitality and power of animals in motion through sculpture. Her piece “Flow” is in the collection of the Tweed Art Gallery, and she has done public artworks for the Scenic Rim Council, Qld Emergency Services, Qld National Parks, and has created a bronze at Wyaralong Dam commemorating the RAAF history of the area. In 2016 she created a sculpture of an Australian sailor now sited in Brisbane’s Southbank Parklands. In 2017 she created a dynamic portrait of a working kelpie for the town of Bonalbo in NSW. Her 2019 entry "Here's Trouble" was Grand Champion Sculpture at Brisbane's Royal Queensland Art Show. In 2020 Catherine did a series of native wildlife , now installed throughout the public spaces in Boonah. Catherine's sculptures are cast using the traditional lost-wax method, chasing and patinizing each piece by hand.

  • Influences

I am awed and inspired by the great figurative sculptors of the past, as well as the amazing artists of the present day who continue the tradition of classical realism.
