    ANGELA WILSON
    ARTIST STATEMENT
“The camera can capture what the eyes see -
the artist can capture what the mind sees and what the heart feels”.
    Alfred Nicolas, artist Mississippi, USA.

Angela has developed a preference for painting waterscapes and landscapes as she has a strong connection to this subject matter. She cites her personal challenge as “capturing the light and reflections at various times of day”.
She says, "To gaze at the changing light and colours of an ocean or waterway is the inspiration for her artist soul." Her paintings are linked by subject: oceans, rivers, lakes, boats and surrounding flora and fauna.
“Look for the light and you will find it”. A quote from Lloyd Rees, keeps me focused on the use of colour and tone to achieve a result worthy of the image I am trying to capture. Painting from photographs is not my preferred method as I like to concentrate on my own use of colour and technique to achieve the atmospheric light in a cloud, or over water or the casting of the shadows’
Using a range of acrylic colours, metallics and inks she applies layers of paint and glazes and a variety of techniques including using brushes and a palette knife to create the vibrant and translucent look she is after. This results in a loose, less exact and impressionistic feel. She usually paints on canvas, but at times on old wood boards or linen to accentuate texture.
My sources of inspiration are not only what I see around me, but in the study of artist work from all eras of great art. Landscape artists such as Turner, Streeton and Lloyd Rees, impressionists such as Monet, Lautrec and Degas and the decorative styles of Klimt, bold style of Josef Kote and Australian modern artist Belinda Fox have all influenced my work at various times.
Angela has lived in southeast Queensland and the nearby coastal areas and waterways for most of her life. In the last twenty years, she has been fortunate to divide her time between a Brisbane home and her “River House"
