Contracts have arrived and we will continue to update the Artists' Pages with specific information about the artworks they will be supplying this year.
We have been fortunate that through the wonderful Downlands community we have made contact with a private collection of extraordinary early works by the late Margaret Olley. These artworks are of varying media, but we primarily have works on paper including ink and wash and also some fantastic monotypes which Ms Olley was noted for as a experimental achiever of great renown.
This body of work will be presented as a collection of works completed from the late 1940's and throughout the 1950's. Margaret Olley moved from the family home into art college, ventured overseas with other notable Australian artists, returned to Australia with a well known dependency on alcohol and a somewhat wayward lifestyle and - with the support of her brother Ken and other family members - managed to overcome her vices and grow to become the fantastic still life painter we all know so well. What many people are also not aware of is her ability to capture a portrait in ink, a landscape in oils or, very significantly, cityscapes in pen and wash. The collection we will present will not be for sale, but will be an educational retrospective of her early work with some insight into her travels and her relationships with friends and family over the period. We hope to present art works by some of her contemporaries as contextual pieces for your enjoyment also.
We'd love your help with getting the word out - if you could print and hang a poster in your workplace or school that'd be great!
